Selfish January Treats (collective haul thingy)

My January Carmine box arrived today. My favourite part is the eldora lashes, apparently they are handmade and I can't wait to try them. There's also an eyeko fat eye stick in Satin Taupe (familiar name, no?) Looks like a hybrid between Clinique chubbysticks and NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencils. I'll see how I get on with this, as I wasn't keen on their fat lip balms but love their nail polishes... I generally find eyeko hit and miss.

Anyway, this got me thinking about how many samples and bits and pieces I have that need using up (the guilt!) so I thought I'd do a little post about my bodycare/shower/bath stuff. Like lots of people, I get smellies for Christmas. I got two lots of Lush stuff this time including a bubble bar - a product I'd never tried before and really liked, massage bar (with glitter, not quite sure how to use it), Snow Fairy shower gel (also with glitter), some bath bombs and a soap. So I had a little online Lush binge because the presents made me realise how much I like baths. Word of advice though, don't have a bath too hot or you'll have heart palpitations and feel sick (or is that just me?) I also got Retread conditioner which I'd heard good things about but I didn't realise it had Sodium Laureth Sulphate in it, a detergent which fades hair fast :( (so we'll see how that goes), 4 Skullduggerys (reduced Day of the Dead/Halloween bathbombs which smell like lime... nom nom, used one so far, loved it) a Sunnyside bubblebar (gold glittery, looks amazing!) and some other reduced Christmas bits.

(Sorry, blogger has decided to display these pictures the wrong way and I don't know how to fix it! Meh. They weren't any good anyway, were they?) I've also bought Directions Atlantic Blue vegetable dye, which I have tried and the results will be up shortly. I love it. It's a medium blue colour, true blue (not turquoise). I couldn't find any in my usual shops, so I went back to my favourite old 'goth shop' - Rocky Horrors in Sheffield, and got a bargain - 3 for £10. Yay! I did a little bleach bath first to fade my hair, it made me look like OLD GREGG. ("I like you, whataya think of me?... make an assessment")

(New hair will be shown in my next post...)

I have been using a Satsuma body butter from The Body Shop for a few months and I love it so much I stocked up on some new smells. First I bought this strawberry set (because the strawberry scent they make has always been my favourite, FACT) then another day whilst on my lunchbreak I noticed lots of the bodybutters were £5 and picked up Papaya and Wild Cherry, too. They had by then reduced the sets to £15 (that's a bodybutter, a soap, a scrunchie shower thingy, a scrub and a shower gel for £15... a
steal) so if you need any bodycare stuff stock up now! /advert

Yesterday my Miss L Fire shoes (also on sale!) arrived and I am in love. The above pair Tartaruga I had seen Bernie Dexter sport in black, and fell in love. They are higher than you'd think, with a hidden platform in the front. They even make my UK size 7 (european 40/US 9) feet look dainty! Not sure if I'll ever learn to walk in them, but after a few drinks that never matters. And the below pair, Mabel, was reduced so much I couldn't resist. I love me some brogues (I just haven't had a proper pair since I was 17). Can't wait to wear these babies! (They even come with a dust bag and the boxes are so cute. This is why I now have five pairs of their shoes...)

Hope you're all treating yourselves too, sometimes it's what you need and I'm sure you all deserve it.

Ruth xx

  1. Lots of good stuff! As for the glittery Lush massage bar, I have that too and don't find it gets as much love as my non-glittery ones. I tend to just use it on my arms and chest, but not too often as the glitter seems to just stay there forever (seriously a week's worth of showers later and it's not all gone)

  2. Yay, the shoes!!!! Yay!

I have a pair of those lashes - they were lovely and thick and glossy but weren't very curled. These look prettier, mine were just plain :(

    1. YAY!... OMG Shoes.

The lashes have tiny little sequiny bits on, like individual glitter bits or something. I can haz money off them from the Carmine box code... Might have a browse see if they've got any weird and wonderful ones.

  7. Those shoes are fabulous! And I love Old Gregg. :) Your hair post-bleach-bath is very pretty, too - makes me itch to go ahead and bleach mine and dye it. Hmmm.
